Elephants have a unique way
of communication in the wilderness areas of Africa. By sending an
ultrasonic vibration amplified through their trunks they communicate
with other elephants up to as much as 3 miles away. This low sound
is often a characteristic African background sound especially in
the dry months when large elephant herds congregate around water.
The most receptive part for this low rumble on the other end is the
under part of the foot explaining why elephants sometimes stand still
3 feet on the ground and one slightly raised exposing their deep
calices.
